I always get a bit worried when I see non-movie DVD titles. Special programming always has the chance of being disappointing. However, in the case of the Roaring Glory Warbirds series I find that the right audience will really enjoy these titles.

The six titles in this collection each feature an individual plane.

Volume 1 - F6F Hellcat
Volume 2 - Zero A6M5
Volume 3 - Corsair F4U
Volume 4 - Avenger TBM
Volume 5 - Thunderbolt P-47
Volume 6 - Lightning P-38

On each of these titles, the bulk of it consists of approximately 45 minutes of video all about the plane, when it was used, and who flew it. Any who watches the discovery channel should feel at home with what is here. The video quality is good, new and old footage is mixed in. Sound quality isn't outstanding, but the 5.1 mix proved to compliment the material. I found the movie section to be interesting and informative, but I wanted to jump around the disc a bit.

The menus on these titles were excellent, with animated backgrounds that transitioned nicely from one screen to the next. These were very tasteful with small animations in the background, nothing distracting. Every thing was nicely laid out, easy to find, and each title had six chapters and a non-static chapter search.

All discs contained pretty much the same features. To compliment the video portion additional video clips of planes taking off, landing, or rolling are included on each disc in multi-angle. 3 clips on each disc with 3 angles each. These were in the neat category, and again video quality was decent. The pilot talked about technical issues while he was flying, which was also interesting.

Most of these titles contained the original training films for each plane. These were great, I always enjoy these old films from World War II, with that same guy narrating. These Proved very good additions to the disc. Some additional extras include interviews with former pilots, and photo-albums of each of the planes.

Included on each DVD were previews for all six titles. Which I really enjoyed as these previews were also informative on the planes. Finally for people with DVD-ROMS a great feature is the entire planes manual you can view or print. This is great for people who like detail and added value for these titles.

Now obviously these discs aren't going to appeal to everyone. But for enthusiast and plane hobbyist these would be great. For the target-audience, it is a great use of DVD and I don't think it will disappoint.
