July 31st, 1998 Mailbag Mail of the Week Steve: Man to man, what do you get out of making fun of me? FC: Do you really have to ask that question genius? It is so obvious. You run one of the highest profile DVD websites out there, you read every message board/newsgroup/listserve under the digital sun, openly sharing your opinion on all of them, and you genuinely don't seem to care about the discs you own beyond the bitrate and the extras menu. We are just taking the time to share our opinion of you (and with half the stuff you post you deserve it). Sure you can use your site as a podium to shout out to all your followers about whatever your fancy happens to be today, or why you bought a copy of 'Titanic,' or to tell the world some lame comment about your cat, but what inane reason do you hold that bounds our mouths shut and our fingers still. We can shout on our site (to the two awesome readers we do have) about how lame we think life, love, and stupid people are until kingdom come if we wish, who are you to stop us? Steve, you would have to expect this if you want to be famous, and as high a profile as you aspire to, you're going to get good press and bad. Learn to live with it, your precious little ego can take it. Oh and its not always about you, you, you. Picking on people makes me feel better about myself. From: dteel@ecu.campus.mci.net I'm not new to dvd forum but i'm getting ready to purchase my first dvd player of my own. We have all these sites on the web dedicated to dvd(movies, reviews, etc.) For all of my wading through these sites i can't find one that reviews DVD PLAYERS. I'm interested in players from several companies(sony, toshiba, samsun, panasonic) but can't find a site that will give an honest hardware review, more than just the specs. Can you help? FC: Well I think a good place to start is http://www.dvdfile.com/ they have a hardware section at http://www.dvdfile.com/reviews/hardware/index.html which links to different player reviews. It is a pretty good site overall for indexing reviews for both software and hardware and one of the best general information sites out there. Ok that's all for this week, stay safe! Send mail here.
